Širokospektré beta-laktamázy (ESBL) se poprvé objevily v osmdesátých letech a dnes jsou již celosvětovým problémem v humánní i veterinární medicíně. ESBL jsou enzymy schopné hydrolyzovat beta-laktamový kruh, který obsahují peniciliny, cefalosporiny I., II. a III. generace a monobaktamy. Abstract:
The first report of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBL) was published in 1980s, and nowadays they have been found worldwide in clinical and veterinary isolates. Beta-lactamases are capable of conferring bacterial resistence to the penicillins, first-, second-, and third-generation cephalosporins and aztreonam by hydrolysis of these antibiotics.
