A sustainable development of tourism in the selected destination (Zakynthos)

Abstract:

Diplomová práce se zabývá udržitelným rozvojem cestovního ruchu na řeckém ostrově Zakynthos. Jejím hlavním cílem je analyzovat stav a vývoj cestovního ruchu na ostrově a posoudit jeho udržitelnost. První kapitola se věnuje teorii udržitelného cestovního ruchu i udržitelného rozvoje. Dále představuje základní dokumenty problematiky, Agendu 21 a Agendu 2030, pozitivní a negativní vlivy cestovního ruchu a jeho nejvýznamnější šetrné formy. Následující kapitola seznámí čtenáře se základními údaji o Řecku, zejména s geografickými, přírodními a kulturními podmínkami. Důležitá je i současná ekonomická a politická situace a statistiky cestovního ruchu. Třetí část je věnována Zakynthosu. Kromě základních informací o ostrovu přináší potenciál destinace pro cestovní ruch, vztah rezidentů k ochraně životního prostředí a organizace zabývající se udržitelným rozvojem v destinaci. Následuje SWOT analýza ostrova, vyhodnocení dotazníkového šetření a aplikace vybraných indikátorů udržitelného rozvoje do praxe. Závěr práce přináší shrnutí situace udržitelnosti destinace a vhodná doporučení budoucího vývoje.

Abstract:

This master's thesis is concerned with the sustainable development of tourism on the Greek island of Zakynthos. The aim of the thesis is an analysis of tourism on the island and its sustainability. The first chapter clarifies the term “sustainable development of tourism” as well as general sustainable development. It contains basic documents about this topic, Agenda21 and Agenda 2030. Positive and negative impacts of tourism and alternative forms of tourism are mentioned. The second chapter introduces Greece, especially its geographic, natural and cultural conditions, as well as its economic and political situation, and tourism statistics. The next part of the thesis focuses on basic information about the island of Zakynthos and its tourism potential, protection of the environment, and sustainable development organizations. The final part includes SWOT analysis of the island, evaluation of the questionnaire and translation of selected indicators of sustainable development into practice. In the conclusion there is a summary of the sustainability of the destination, with emphasis on recommendations for future development.
