Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá tématem historie Spojených států amerických v období šedesátých a sedmdesátých let dvacátého století. Práce se snaží objasnit historické souvislosti mezi kulturou a rockovou hudbou ve Spojených státech amerických, které jsou místem vzniku této hudby. Tyto dva aspekty života se historicky nedají oddělit, neboť v šedesátých a sedmdesátých letech dvacátého století na sobě v mnoha případech přímo závisely či si sloužily jako zdroj inspirace, což bylo dokázáno na příkladu významných kulturních událostí a hudby/hudebníků. Jako důvod zmiňuji popularitu rocku, velké množství jeho fanoušků a širokou škálu témat, jimiž se hudebníci ve svých textech zabývají, díky čemuž se v plné šíři odhaluje politická rovina této hudby. Výzkum odhalil, že cílem hudby je vydělat peníze, ale jako ještě možná důležitější se jeví její schopnost inspirovat posluchače a vyvolat v nich různorodé emoce, které následně mohou zapříčinit nejrůznější reakce a vést až k zásadním sociálním změnám ve společnosti. Toto bylo demonstrováno na příkladu války ve Vietnamu, Amerického hnutí za občanská práva a alternativní kultury. Všemi těmito tématy se zabývám z historického hlediska a jejich dopad na společenský život občanů vysvětluji za pomoci názorných ukázek relevantních hudebních skladeb. Došel jsem k závěru, že široký záběr, který rocková hudba má, je významnou hnací silou společenských změn a že tato hudba veskrze pozitivně ovlivnila životy lidí ve Spojených státech amerických během šedesátých a sedmdesátých let dvacátého století.

Abstract:

This study concentrates on the topic of history of the United States in two decades of the twentieth century: 1960s and 1970s. It explains a historical connection between culture and rock music as seen on the example of the United States, rock’s country of origin. Examination of significant cultural events and music/musicians showed that the two topics are historically inseparable and have relied and inspired one another on many occasions throughout the course of the 1960s and 1970s. This has to do with rock’s popularity, its massive following and wide thematic range which allow for its political aspect to be recognized on a massive scale. The results also revealed music’s ability not only to make money but, perhaps even more importantly, to inspire its listeners and create various emotions which then provoke all kinds of reactions and can lead to significant social changes in society. It was put to the test when the Vietnam War, Civil Rights and countercultural movements were discussed. All the topics are examined from a historical perspective and their social impact is explained on a wide variety of relevant songs. I conclude that rock in its many forms is a major driving force of social change and has had mostly positive effect on the improvement of people’s lives in the United States in the 1960s and 1970s.
