Incorporation of nanostructured ZnO during emulsion polymerization

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce obsahuje stručnou literární rešerši na téma vodných akrylových polymerních disperzí připravených technikou emulzní polymerace. Teoretická část se také věnuje tvorbě latexového filmu a iontovému síťování vzhledem k inkorporaci nanostrukturního oxidu zinečnatého. V rámci zamýšlené aplikace připravených latexů je v teoretické části popsáno využití vodných polymerních disperzí v oboru nátěrových hmot a rešerše je zakončena kapitolou o bližší charakteristice oxidu zinečnatého. Experimentální část se zabývá přípravou vodných polymerních disperzí na bázi akrylových monomerů s odlišnou velikostí a obsahem inkludovaného nanostrukturního oxidu zinečnatého. Základní vlastnosti latexů byly vyhodnoceny zejména po stránce jejich stability a reálného obsahu inkludovaného nanostrukturního oxidu zinečnatého. U jejich nátěrových povlaků byly posouzeny lakařské vlastnosti a velký důraz byl kladen na jejich antimikrobiální účinnost v souvislosti s obsahem a velikostí částic inkludovaného oxidu zinečnatého.

Abstract:

This master thesis contains a brief literature survey on the topic of aqueous acrylic polymer dispersions prepared via the emulsion polymerization technique. The theoretical part is also devoted to latex film formation and ionic crosslinking due to the incorporation of nanostructured zinc oxide. Within the intended application of the prepared latexes, the usage in the coating industry is described in the theoretical part, and the survey is concluded with a chapter about more detailed characteristics of zinc oxide. The experimental part deals with the preparation of aqueous polymer dispersions based on acrylic monomers with various sizes and content of included zinc oxide nanoparticles. The basic properties of latexes were evaluated mainly in terms of their stability and the real content of included nanostructured zinc oxide. The paint properties of their coatings were assessed and great emphasis was placed on their antimicrobial effectiveness in the context of the content and size of the included zinc oxide nanoparticles.
