Visualizations for Flowmon DDoS Defender

Abstract:

Theoretic foundation shows that there is a great number of DoS and DDoS attacks (Distributed Denial of Service). In the field of research there are many ways how to visualize them available. Company Flowmon Networks developed a tool Flowmon DDoS Defender which allows detection and mitigation of DDoS attacks. Although the tool is highly functional, it lacks transparent user interface and data visualisation options. Our goal was to create a set of visualisations which would bring better insight into the data collected during attack monitoring. We used several technologies for interactive web development of user interfaces. We successfully managed to accomplish our goal to create visualisation library which usage was demonstrated in example application.

Abstract:

Teoretické východiská nám ukazujú, že existuje množstvo útokov typu DoS a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) a ich vizualizácií, ktoré sa používajú vo výskume. Spoločnosť Flowmon Networks vytvorila nástroj Flowmon DDoS Defender, ktorý slúži na detekciu a mitigáciu DDoS útokov. Nástroj je síce funkčný, ale chýba mu prehľadnejšie užívateľské rozhranie a možnosť vizualizácie dát. Naším cieľom bolo vytvoriť sadu vizualizácií, ktoré umožnia vhľad do dát získaných v priebehu útokov. Pri vývoji sme použili niekoľko technológií pre tvorbu interaktívnych webových užívateľských rozhraní. Pri implementácii sa nám úspešne podarilo splniť cieľ, vytvoriť knižnicu vizualizácií, ktorých použitie sme demonštrovali v ukážkovej aplikácií.
