International sanctions as an instrument in international politics

Abstract:

Since international economic sanctions and their features are the focus of our thesis, it is necessary to consider several aspects of this very important instrument of international relations. A clear, logical, and transparent mechanism for practical application requires justification and unification of the very concept of sanction. Thus, sanctions are measures of forced external influence on relevant subjects of international relations to achieve the desired goals. The essence of the problem is that the modern practice of international economic relations uses a whole range of measures of such coercive influence. The completeness of the definition of international sanctions is important not only for theoretical reasons. It forms the basis for a clear classification of economic sanctions, justification of their principles, methods, forms, and application limits. The aim of the thesis is to provide a comprehensive overview of the theory and practice of international sanctions and international sanctions mechanisms, and based on the analysis of their development, their application in history, to evaluate the effectiveness and political and economic impacts in selected countries. For our thesis, we chose 4 states that are subject to international sanctions mechanisms, namely the Democratic People's Republic of Korea, Belarus, Iran, and Syria. We use basic research methods for processing the thesis, namely the analytical method, the descriptive method, the comparative method, and the method of induction and deduction.

Abstract:

Nakoľko sú predmetom pozornosti našej diplomovej práce práve medzinárodné ekonomické sankcie a ich črty, je v potrebné veľmi zvažovať viaceré aspekty tohto veľmi dôležitého nástroja medzinárodných vzťahov. Jasný, logický a transparentný mechanizmus pre praktickú aplikáciu si vyžaduje opodstatnenosť a zjednotenie samotného pojmu sankcie. Sankcie sú teda opatreniami vynúteného vonkajšieho vplyvu na relevantné subjekty medzinárodných vzťahov na dosiahnutie želaných cieľov. Podstatou problému je, že moderná prax medzinárodných ekonomických vzťahov využíva celý rad opatrení takéhoto donucovacieho vplyvu. Úplnosť definície medzinárodných sankcií je dôležitá nielen z teoretických dôvodov. Tvorí základ pre jasnú klasifikáciu ekonomických sankcií, zdôvodnenie ich princípov, metód, foriem a limitov aplikácie. Cieľom diplomovej práce je poskytnúť komplexný prehľad v teórii a praxi medzinárodných sankcií a medzinárodných sankčných mechanizmov, a na základe analýzy ich vývoja, ich uplatňovania v histórii, zhodnotiť efektivitu a politické a ekonomické dopady vo vybraných štátoch. Pre našu diplomovú prácu sme si zvolili 4 štáty, ktoré podliehajú medzinárodným sankčným mechanizmom, konkrétne Kórejskú ľudovodemokratickú republiku, Bielorusko, Irán a Sýriu. Na spracovanie diplomovej práce využívame základné výskumné metódy, a to analytickú metódu, deskriptívnu metódu, komparatívnu metódu a metódu indukcie a dedukcie.
