Creation of and authorial stencil display type. Past and present of stencil letters and stencilling.

Abstract:

V úvodu teoretické části práce popisuji problematiku digitální typografie, která souvisí s tvorbou digitálních písem současných autorů, a to zejména s jejich přístupy k estetickým a technickým požadavkům, jenž typografie současného počítačového světa uplatňuje. V dalších částech přibližuji specifický druh typografie ? šablonová písma, jejich vývoj v historických souvislostech, faktory ovlivňující vizuální podobu, způsoby používání a technické požadavky zpracování šablon. Kromě toho mapuji užívání šablonových písem v oboru soudobého grafického designu a taktéž přesahy do oblasti volného umění. V praktické části se zabývám tvorbou autorského akcidenčního písma šablonového typu s názvem PERIPHERY v tučném a tenkém řezu. Písmo je k dispozici v digitální podobě ve formátu Opentype. Vytvořila jsem vzorníky, tématické plakáty a propagační předměty prezentujících autorské písmo.

Abstract:

In the theoretical part of my diploma thesis I describe in the introduction the problems of the digital typography, which is pertinent to the creation of digital types of the contemporary authors and their approaches to the esthetic and technical demands, which the typography of the contemporary computer world is going to apply. In the other parts I try to make clear and describe the specific type of typography ? the stencil letters, their development in the historical context, the factors affecting their visual shape, the techniques of their application and the technical demands concerning the processing of the stencils. Besides it I was engaged in using the stencil letters in the sphere of the contemporary graphic design and its overlapping into the sphere of the free art. In the practical part I was dealing with the creation of the authorial stencil display type named PERIPHERY in the bold and light style. The letters are at disposal in the digital form in the Open type format. I created the type-specimen book, the thematic posters and advertising articles representing the authorial type.
