European Discourse and its changes in the post-Blairist Britain

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se pokusí o diskurzivní analýzu britského evropského diskurz v jeho dvou elementárních úrovních – teoretičtější rovině ideologické a konkrétnější politické. V teoretické rovině nahlédne problematiku evropské identity v Británii, resp. její specifický charakter, kořeny a příčiny těchto specifik, odlišnosti britské „Europeanness“ od identity národní (či v britském případě od identit národních) a nabídne analýzu její aktuální podoby a vnímání (využití průzkumů veřejného mínění). Druhá část se pokusí o analýzu aktuálního evropského diskurzu ve smyslu britského vztahu k tzv. „nové Evropě“ skrze stav, vnímání a reflexi zásadních otázek současné evropské agendy v Británii. Tato část se pokusí definovat a analyzovat vybrané zásadní otázky britské evropské agendy, analyzovat postoje jak na oficiální vládní (vláda, FCO, zejména Minister for Europe a jeho blog) i nevládní úrovni (nevládní organizace, pressure groups), naznačit změny, posuny, k nimž v jejich rámci došlo, příp. i možné alternativy do budoucna.

Abstract:

This BC thesis attempts at discoursive analysis of the British European discourse in its two elementary levels - ideological as well as political. In theoretical section, it analyzes the problem of European identity in Britain, its specific character, their roots and causes. It explores the peculiarities of British "Europeanness" and its relation to the national identities, analysing its current form and perception (utilizing public opinion research data). Second part analyses current european discourse in terms of British relation to the so-called New Europe, exploring the situation, perception and reflection of fundamental issues of the European agenda in British foreign policy.This part outlines and analyses selected representative problems of British European agenda, analyses the official mind (cabinet, FCI, Ministry for Europe) as well as non-governmental level (NGOs, pressure groups,think-tanks). It aims at defining possible shifts and changes within the process as well as conceivable alternatives for the future.
