The Luminescent Behavior of Banknotes and Postage Stamps \nl{}\nl{}

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zaměřuje všeobecně na chování papírových bankovek a poštovních známek pod UV světlem, respektive jejich ochranných prvků. Cílem je objasnění technologických procesů při výrobě bankovek a známek, podrobně popsané a rozebrané ochranné prvky bankovek, a také objasnění pojmu luminiscence, respektive luminiscenční spektroskopie, která je úzce spjata s ochrannými prvky, nahlédnutí do historie vzniku platidel a jejich první padělání. V práci budou také rozebrány některé metody, pomocí níž lze detekovat padělané bankovky. V praktické části jsou uvedeny snímky českých bankovek pod UV lampou a na denním světle, pod stereomikroskopem, respektive jejich ochranných prvků, naměřená hustota bankovek a výstupní hodnoty ze spektrofluorometrického přístroje. Dále jsou zde uvedeny poštovní známky pod UV lampou a na denním světle, ovšem dále jsem se jimi nezabýval, jelikož bakalářská práce je primárně zaměřena na problematiku týkající se českých bankovek.

Abstract:

Bachelor´s thesis is focused on the general behavior of paper money and postage stamps under the UV light, or rather protective elements. Technological processes used in paper money and postage stamps production are described, the protective elements used in their production as well as principles of luminescence and luminescence spectroscopy, closely connected with protection elements of paper banknotes are discussed in details. Attention is also paid the history of the rise of paper money and counterfeiting. Some methods that may serve to detection of counterfeit are dismantled. In experimental part, photos of Czech banknotes taken under UV lamp and daily light, under stereomicroscope are given with special respect to protective elements included together with measured values of banknotes density and output values of the spectrofluorometer. Further orientation results of some foreign postage stamps observation under UV and visible light are shown. This topic was not followed in details and these results are given more or less for orientation because my bachelor thesis primary concerns the problematic of Czech banknotes.
