Effect of instream wood on hydraulics, morphological and grain-size parameters of a torrential stream channel

Abstract:

Tato diplomová práce se věnuje problematice říčního dřeva v bystřinných tocích. Hlavními cíli práce bylo vyhodnocení vlivu říčního dřeva na morfologii koryta, hydraulické a zrnitostní parametry. Počátek práce uvádí obecné shrnutí jeho působení v bystřinných korytech. Následuje popis použitých metod a postupů. Studovanou lokalitou byl úsek ve Velkém potoku, kde bylo identifikováno 20 kusů říčního dřeva, přičemž většina tvoří dřevní akumulaci. Byl zjištěn vliv na všechny studované parametry. Říční dřevo vychyluje proudnici, je iniciátorem vzniku tůní a dalších korytových forem. Bylo zaznamenáno snížení rychlosti proudění vlivem říčního dřeva. V jeho blízkosti se rychlosti proudění pohybovaly okolo 0 m/s. Za dřevním nápěchem došlo k akumulaci jemnějších klastů (D50 < 40 mm). Před dřevní akumulací se ukládal hrubší sediment (D50 > 100 mm).

Abstract:

This diploma thesis deals with problematics of instream wood in torrential streams. The main aim of this thesis was to evaluate the influence of instream wood on channel morphology, hydraulic and grain-size parameters. There is a general summary of the instream wood effects on torrential stream at the beginning. Followed by a description of used methods and procedures. As an analyzed area the section of Velký potok was chosen, where 20 pieces of instream wood were identified, while most of them create wood accumulation. The results show that all studied parameters were affected. Instream wood deflects water flow, it is the main initiator of the pool and other channel structures creations. A decrease of flow velocity was recorded. The flow velocity near the wood accumulation was around 0 m/s. Finer clasts were located behind the wood accumulation (D50 < 40 mm). In front of the wood accumulation accumulation the coarser clasts have been kept (D50 > 100 mm).
