The first chapter introduces the term "social class" and its development throughout history with particular emphasis on the time from Karl Marx to Margaret Thatcher, an era, which had a major impact on the working class, as we know it today. Práce se zabývá sociálními třídami ve Velké Británii. V první části je představen pojem sociální systém a historie jeho vývoje. Pojednává se o období od Karla Marxe až po Margaret Thatcherovou, kdy je popisován vznik sociálních tříd se zaměřením zejména na dělnickou třídu.
