Banální nacionalismus a ruská anexe Krymu

Abstract:

Cílem této práce bylo aplikovat koncept banálního nacionalismu na příklady spojené s anexí Krymu. Proto bude nejprve nutné představit koncept banálního nacionalismu a jeho hlavní myšlenky. Následně se zaměřím na situaci související se samotnou anexí Krymu a stručně popíši historii poloostrova, která je pro pochopení celé problematiky anexe klíčová. Poslední část textu bude věnována případovým studiím z oblasti kultury a sportu, a to především z důvodu jejich klíčové role při připomínání banálního nacionalismu. Konkrétně půjde o vystoupení zpěvačky Jamaly v mezinárodní hudební soutěži Eurovize s písní motivovanou anexí poloostrova a původní design dresů ukrajinské fotbalové reprezentace před mistrovstvím Evropy v roce 2021. Analýza bude vycházet z článků dvojice nejcitovanějších ruských internetových zpravodajských serverů po roce 2014, RT a RIA Novosti. Výsledkem textu bude ukázka způsobů, jakými se projevy banálního nacionalismu vyskytují v rétorice ruských médií, politických představitelů a známých kulturních a sportovních osobností. Hlavními zdroji pro zpracování této práce bude kniha Michaela Billiga Banální nacionalismus.

Abstract:

This thesis will aim to apply the concept of banal nationalism to examples related to the annexation of Crimea. Therefore, it will first be necessary to introduce the concept of banal nationalism and its main ideas. Subsequently, I will focus on the situation related to the annexation of Crimea itself and briefly describe the history of the peninsula, which is crucial for understanding the whole issue of annexation. The last part of the text will be devoted to case studies in the area of culture and sport, primarily because of their key role in reminding us of banal nationalism. Specifically, this will include the performance of the singer Jamala in the Eurovision international music contest with a song motivated by the annexation of the peninsula and the original design of the Ukrainian national football team's jerseys ahead of the 2021 European Championship. The analysis will be based on articles by a pair of Russia's most cited post-2014 online news sites, RT and RIA Novosti. The result of the text will be a demonstration of the manners in which expressions of banal nationalism are found in the rhetoric of Russian media, political leaders, and well-known cultural and sports figures. The main sources for the elaboration of this work, as the text already shows, will be Michael Billig's book Banal Nationalism.
