Building Kd-tree for the ray tracing method

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá stavbou k-d stromu pro akceleraci metody sledování paprsku. Existující systém pro vykreslování obrazu v reálném byl rozšířen o podporu k-d stromu jako akcelerační struktury. Pro stavbu k-d stromu byly implementovány dvě metody (SAH metoda a metoda prostorového mediánu) lišící se rychlostí stavby i kvalitou vybudovaného stromu. Práce rovněž obsahuje srovnání implementovaných metod stavby k-d stromu a také srovnání k-d stromu a původní akcelerační struktury systému, SBVH.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with construction of k-d tree acceleration structure for the ray tracing method. Existing ray tracing framework has been extended to support the k-d tree as its acceleration structure. Construction of the k-d tree is performed by one of two implemented methods (SAH and spatial median) of differing speeds and quality of built trees. This work also includes comparison of the implemented methods for the k-d tree construction and also a comparison of the k-d tree and another acceleration structure, SBVH.
