Bodybuilding: An Unexplored Land of Ideals and Stereotypes

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce je přehledovou studií zabývající se nejnovějšími akademickými texty v oblasti bodybuildingu, jakožto neustále se šířícího fenoménu. Má za cíl plnit funkci jak přehledovou, tak i osvětovou, neboť jejím záměrem je sledovat prolínání pozitivní idealizace a negativní stereotypizace v povědomí a podvědomí širokého publika. Pro mnohé lidi vypěstované svaly stále tvoří „Muže“ a spolu s touto představou se skrze boj o prestiž a internet či jiná média přenáší mnoho lží a mýtů. Skrze přehled základních témat v sociologii tohoto sportu/životního stylu pak tato práce pomáhá nalézat zdravější střední cestu ve zmíněné dualitě a vnášet světlo do temnoty neprůhledných praktik vedoucích k budovaní kultury těla i ducha.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is an overview study dealing with the newest academical texts about bodybuilding as an ever-growing phenomenon. Its goal is to function as an overview and enlightenment because its purpose is to observe the penetration of positive idealization and negative stereotyping in conscious and subconscious of broad laity. For many, the cultivated muscles still makes the „Man“ and with this image many lies and myths are communicated through prestige competition, internet or via other medias. By overview of major topics in sociology of this sport/lifestyle this thesis tries to help to find a healthier middle way in this duality and to illuminate darkness of non-transparent activities of building the culture of the body and the soul.
