Geographical organisation of manufacturing industry: the case of furniture industry

Abstract:

Tato práce se bude zabývat změnami v prostorovém rozmístění nábytkářského průmyslu na území Česka mezi lety 1987, 2009 a 2014. Práce bude rozdělena do 5 kapitol. První dvě kapitoly budou tvořit teoretickou část práce, kapitola 3 se bude zabývat popisem dat, jejich zdrojů a metod, které použiji v empirické části a kapitoly 4 a 5 budou tvořit empirickou část práce. V teoretické části se budu věnovat např. charakteristice zpracovatelského průmyslu, jeho dělení dle technologické a znalostní náročnosti, charakteristice nábytkářského průmyslu a faktorům ovlivňujících prostorové rozmístění tohoto odvětví. Dále se budu věnovat charakteristice low a medium-tech odvětví, do kterých nábytkářský průmysl spadá, jejich inovačními strategiemi a aspekty rozmístění. V rámci empirické části se budu zabývat změnami v rozmístění nábytkářského průmyslu na území Česka na základě výpočtu lokalizačního kvocientu z dat pocházejících z Českého statistického úřadu za roky 1987, 2009 a 2014. Dále se budu věnovat popisu vývoje významných nábytkářských firem od začátku jejich působení až do současnosti.

Abstract:

This work will deal with changes in spatial distribution of furniture industry in Czechia between 1987, 2009 and 2014. The work will be divided into 5 chapters. The first two chapters will form the theoretical part of the thesis, chapter 3 will describe the data, their sources and methods that I will use in the empirical part and chapters 4 and 5 will form the empirical part of the work. In the theoretical part I will deal with the characteristics of the manufacturing industry, its division according to technological and knowledge intensity, characteristics of the furniture industry and factors affecting the spatial distribution of this industry. Furthermore, I will focus on the characteristics of low and medium-tech industries in which the furniture industry falls, their innovative strategies and deployment aspects. In the empirical part I will deal with changes in the distribution of the furniture industry in Czechia based on the calculation of the localization quotient from data from the Czech Statistical Office for the years 1987, 2009 and 2014. Furthermore, I will describe the development of major furniture companies from the beginning of their operations to the present.
