The Znojmo wedding of 1335 or How the Margrave of Moravia arranged a festive wedding for his sister Anna

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská diplomová práce se zabývá svatbami v českém prostředí především vrcholného a pozdního středověku, a to na příkladu svatby Anny Lucemburské a Oty Habsburského, která se konala ve Znojmě roku 1335. Práce je rozdělena do tří částí, přičemž první z nich se věnuje vymezení a pochopení často používaných pojmů a termínů. Druhá část se zaměřuje na kronikáře a jejich zápisy o svatbě Anny s Otou. Poslední část popisuje konkrétní politickou situaci související s uvedenou svatbou a následně obecně pojednává o všech náležitostech předcházejících rituálnímu okamžiku sňatku, o samotném svatebním obřadu i o následných festivitách spojených s reprezentací panovníka.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis deals with weddings in the Czech environment, particularly in the High and Late Middle Ages, using the example of the wedding of Anna of Luxembourg and Otto von Habsburg, which took place in Znojmo in 1335. The work consists of three parts,the first of which lists and explains some of the frequently used terms. The second part is focused on chroniclers and their records of Anna and Otto’s wedding. The last part describes the specific political situation related to the wedding and then deals with all the aspects preceding the moment of the ritual wedding, the actual wedding ceremony and the following festivities connected with the sovereign’s presentation.
