The Young Adults Beliefs about Health - Related Behavior

Abstract:

Hlavním cílem této diplomové práce bylo zjistit, jaká přesvědčení mají mladí dospělí o chování souvisejícím se zdravím a zda existují souvislosti mezi některými těmito přesvědčeními a místem kontroly vztaženém ke zdraví (health locus of control). Zajímalo nás, jaká přesvědčení mají mladí dospělí o tom, co je zdraví podporující či ohrožující, a o tom, co prospěšného sami dělají pro své zdraví nebo čím mu naopak škodí. Zaměřili jsme se i na jiná přesvědčení mladých dospělých týkajících se jejich životního stylu, na možné rozdíly v přesvědčeních mužů a žen a možné souvislosti mezi některými přesvědčeními. Výzkumný soubor tvořilo 119 respondentů ve věku 20-35 let (87 žen a 32 mužů). Respondenti vyplňovali online dotazník zahrnující některé otevřené otázky vlastní konstrukce a Multidimenzionální škálu Health Locus of Control. Data byla zpracovávána kvalitativními i kvantitativními metodami. V přesvědčeních mladých dospělých o tom, co je zdraví prospěšné, a o tom, co sami dělají pro své zdraví, dominuje fyzická aktivita, zdravá strava a duševní hygiena. Jako zdraví ohrožující vidí především užívání škodlivých látek, nezdravou stravu a nedostatečnou duševní hygienu. Tyto faktory uváděli nejčastěji i ve svém zdraví ohrožujícím chování. Celkem 67% respondentů považuje svůj životní styl za zdravý. Se změnou svého životního stylu do určité míry souhlasí 61% mladých dospělých. Především by chtěli změnit své stravování, fyzickou aktivitu a omezit užívání škodlivých látek. O dostatečné informovanosti o zdravém životním stylu je přesvědčeno 80% respondentů. Předpokládané rozdíly v přesvědčeních mužů a žen nebyly jednoznačně potvrzeny. Statisticky významné se ukázaly některé vztahy mezi přesvědčeními. Předpokládaný vztah mezi health locus of control a přesvědčeními souvisejícími s chováním týkajícího se zdraví také nebyl jednoznačně potvrzen. Více internalističtí lidé častěji uvádějí duševní hygienu jako své zdraví podporující chování. Také však častěji než externalisticky zaměření lidé zmiňují, že svému zdraví škodí nedostatečnou fyzickou aktivitou. Statisticky významná pozitivní korelace byla potvrzena mezi internalitou a přesvědčením o vlastním zdravém životním stylu. Výsledky jsou v diskuzi konfrontovány s teoretickými předpoklady a zjištěními jiných empirických studií.

Abstract:

The main purposes of the diploma thesis were to discover the young adults´ beliefs about the health- related behavior and the connections between some of the beliefs and the health locus of control. We were interested in what beliefs young people have about health- protective behavior/health- risk behavior and what beliefs they have about what they do for/against their health status. We focused also on some other beliefs of young adults concerning their life style, possible differences in men and women beliefs, and some possible connections between some other beliefs. The research sample consisted of 119 respondents (87 women and 32 men). They filled out online questionnaire that consisted of open questions constructed by ourselves and the Multidimensional Health Locus of Control Scale. The data were analyzed both by qualitative and quantitative methods. In the young adults´ beliefs about the health- protective behavior and their own health- protective behavior the physical activity, healthy diet and mental hygiene predominate. As the health- threatening they see substance use, unhealthy diet and insufficient mental hygiene. The same factors they stated also in their beliefs of their own health- risk behavior. In total 67% of the respondents consider their life style as healthy. With the change of their life style 61% of the respondents agree in some level. Above all these respondents would like to change their diet, physical activity and to reduce the consumptions of some harmful substances. 80% of the respondents believe they are sufficiently informed about healthy life style. The differences in women and men beliefs, that had been expected, weren´t confirmed definitely. Statistically significant positive connections were discovered among some beliefs. Anticipated relationship between health locus of control and some health- related beliefs also wasn´t confirmed definitely. Higher internals state more often their beliefs about mental hygiene as their own health- protective behavior. On the other hand they also more often mention their insufficient physical activity as health- risk behavior in comparison to higher externals. Statistically significant the positive correlation between internality and the belief about their own healthy life style was confirmed. In the discussion the results are confronted with the theoretical assumptions and the empirical findings of the previous research.
