Effectiveness of visual and associative agnosia rehabilitation programs in an elderly patient following exeresis of a glioblastoma multiforme: case report

Abstract:

After an overview of the central and peripheral nervous system and after having explained the anatomy of the parts composing it, the work will analyze glioblastoma multiforme, a brain tumor that brings a very broad symptomatology that ranges from epileptic seizures to deterioration of cognitive functions, mainly due to the intracranial pressure that the tumor mass entails; we will focus, in particular, on visual and associative agnosia. The main treatments applied to glioblastoma patients will be analyzed and explained: drug therapies, surgical therapies and therapies such as radiotherapy and chemotherapy, as well as the rehabilitation therapies useful to enable patients to regain a discreet quality of life. Finally, the clinical situation of Mr. Federico M, will be analyzed: he is a 61-years-old patient who underwent the exeresis of a glioblastoma and, after it, he had manifested visual and associative agnosia, as well as paralysis on the left side of her body and neglect. The rehabilitation techniques adopted and the results obtained through them will be analyzed, as well.

Abstract:

L'elaborato, dopo avere condotto una panoramica sul sistema nervoso centrale e periferico e dopo avere spiegato l'anatomia delle parti che lo compongono, analizzer? il glioblastoma multiforme, una neoplasia cerebrale che porta una sintomatologia molto vasta che spazia dalla comparsa di crisi epilettiche a deterioramento delle funzioni cognitive, dovuto principalmente alla pressione endocranica che la massa tumorale comporta; ci si soffermer? in particolare su agnosia visiva e associativa. Verranno, poi, analizzati e spiegati i principali trattamenti che vengono applicati ai pazienti di glioblastoma: terapie farmacologiche, terapie chirurgiche e le terapie quali la radioterapia e la chemioterapia, nonché le terapie riabilitative a cui i pazienti sono sottoposti in modo tale da poter riacquistare una discreta qualit? della vita. Da ultimo, verr? analizzata la situazione clinica del signor Federico M, paziente di 61 anni, sottoposto ad exeresi di un glioblastoma che, in fase post-operatoria, presentava agnosia visiva e associativa, oltre che paralisi alla parte sinistra del corpo e neglect: verranno analizzate le tecniche riabilitative adottate e i risultati ottenuti attraverso le stesse.
