Fashion Culture in Contemporary Society

Abstract:

Práce „Kultura odívání a móda v současné společnosti“ se zabývá především postavením módy a odívání vůbec v rámci moderní globalizované společnosti, zkoumá její funkci, vliv a prostředky, kterými dosahuje svých cílů. Studie si klade za cíl alespoň částečně analyzovat tento významný fenomén dnešního světa. Postupuje směrem od nastínění základních stupňů módního procesu, k propojení módy a kulturního průmyslu, především kinematografie a vlivu „módních ikon“ na vnímání módy a těla společností. Zabývá se také prezentováním módy na stránkách časopisů, podrobněji analyzuje módní fotografii. Neméně významnou součástí práce je kapitola, která se věnuje vlivu módy na utváření a prezentování identity jednotlivce v rámci společnosti, jeho sociálního statutu, sexuality, vztahu genderu a módy. Pozornost je věnována estetickým ideálům, kultu krásy a dokonalého těla. V neposlední řadě se práce věnuje problematice etiky a ekologie spojené s působením oděvního průmyslu, jako jednoho z nejvíce prosperujících hospodářských odvětvích.

Abstract:

Thesis „Fashion Culture in Contemporary Society“ is dealing mainly with the status of fashion, and clothing as such, within modern globalized society, examining its function, effects and means through which achieves its aims. The main purpose of this thesis is to at least partially analyse this significant phenomenon of the present world. It progresses from the definition of basic stages of fashion process towards tie-ins with cultural industry chiefly cinematography and influence of ’fashion icons’ on perception of fashion and body by society. It also deals with presentation of fashion on pages of fashion magazines and analyses in detail fashion photography. No less important part of the thesis is also section dedicated to effect of fashion on presentation of identity of the individual within society, his social status, sexuality, relationship between gender and fashion. The attention is focused on aesthetic ideals, cult of beauty and ideal body. The thesis also deals with the question of ethic and ecology related to the production of garment industry as one of the most flourishing commercial sector.
