Abstract:

Předkládaná diplomová práce zpracovává téma užití slovníků a jazykových korpusů v praxi uživatele anglického jazyka jako cizího jazkya, tj. překladatele, studenta či výzkumného pracovníka. Cílem práce je pomoci zorientovat se v problematice elektronických zdrojů, které v poslední době nahrazují dříve užívané knižní slovníky a jejichž škála na trhu je nepřeberná. Práce vychází z článku prof. Aleše Klégra, který zkoumal chování kolokací (slovních spojení) slov sadness/smutek, konkrétně tedy ve spojení se slovesy (sloveso+předmět) ve dvou jazykových korpusech – v českém (smutek) a anglickém (sadness). Práce si klade za cíl potvrdit či vyvrátit tezi, že v případě překladatelské činnosti je třeba používat více než jen jeden zdroj (slovník či korpus), aby byl zajištěn výběr skutečně adekvátního ekvivalentu pro cílový jazyk překladu, ať už je jím jazyk mateřský či nemateřský.

Abstract:

This thesis strives to establish guidelines for users of English as a foreign language (EFL), i.e. students, researchers and translators, who may feel overwhelmed with the range of currently available electronic language resources, such as dictionaries and corpora. When discussing the process of translation, the issue of directionality, i.e. whether the translation is done into or out of one’s language of habitual use (or L1, formerly called mother tongue), has become rather important (Campbell, 1998). In this respect the thesis is geared towards translating into English, mapping the most effective resources that are currently available. It focuses on the problem of collocability in an attempt to show ways of dealing with collocations in translation and EFL in general.
