Urban Sprawl - Metropolitan Development of the Olomouc City

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce se zabývá vlivem fenoménu Urban sprawl na město Olomouc. Jejím cílem je představit čtenáři problematiku daného fenoménu, provést analýzu vybraného města a s pomocí výstupů z programu QGIS definovat nejkritičtější oblasti. Z nich je vybrána městská část Nová Ulice, která vykazuje největší míru růstu nové zástavby. Na jejím příkladu je poté detailně rozebrán sociodemografický vliv Urban sprawlu, a to zejména díky výsledkům ankety vyplňované respondenty z této oblasti. Jako nejvýraznější prvek Urban sprawlu se projevuje neadekvátní dopravní kapacita spojená s nedostatečnou občanskou vybaveností, která má za důsledek tlak na parkování v oblasti a další negativní projevy automobilové dopravy. Možná řešení jsou následně popsána, kromě jiného jde o tvorbu udržitelnější formy budoucí zástavby a rozvoj městské hromadné dopravy spolu s cyklistickou infrastrukturou.

Abstract:

The bachelor thesis deals with the influence of the Urban sprawl phenomenon on the city of Olomouc. Its objective is to introduce the reader to the issue of the phenomenon, to analyze the selected city and with the help of outputs from the QGIS programme to define the most critical areas. The Nová Ulice district, which shows the highest growth rate of new development, is selected from the aforementioned. The example of the socio-demographic influence of Urban Sprawl in the selected area is then analyzed in detail, especially due to results of a survey filled in by respondents from this area. The most significant element of Urban Sprawl is the inadequate transport capacity associated with insufficient civic amenities, which also results in pressure on parking in the area and other negative effects of car traffic. Possible solutions are then described, amongst other things the plan to create a more sustainable approach to future development and also create a progress of public transportation along with the cycling infrastructure.
