"I Have Always Been a Friend of Enlightenment and Truth": The Correspondence of (Ex)Premonstratensian Norbert Gregor Korber (1782–1787)

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá identitou, sebeprezentací a rodinnými i přátelskými vazbami louckého kanovníka Norberta Řehoře Korbera v letech 1782 až 1787, tak jak je za-chycuje dochovaný soubor jím odeslané korespondence. Jeho poměrně paradoxní osobnost řeholníka-josefinisty je zde zasazena do širšího kontextu recepce osvícen-ských myšlenek v řádovém prostředí ve 2. polovině 18. století. Jednotlivé kapitoly se zabývají problematickým fungováním klášterní komunity v premonstrátské kanonii v Louce, rušením kláštera a postavením tohoto řeholníka v rodinném prostředí a v rámci vzdělaneckých sítí na Moravě.

Abstract:

This thesis analyses the identity, self-representation and personal bonds of Kloster-bruck canon Norbert Řehoř Korber in between 1782 and 1787, using a collection of his dispatched correspondence. His personality that was paradoxically both monasti-cal and Josephinist in nature is approached in a wider context of Enlightenment thoughts reception in the late-18th-century religious orders. The respective chapters focus on the problematic relationship between members of the Premonstratensian canonry, the dissolution of the monastery and Korber’s position in his family circles and among intellectuals in Moravia.
