Abstract:
The thesis draws on the research carried out by Jan Firbas into the field of the theory of functional sentence perspective (FSP). It is based on a comparative study of the verb in a Czech fictional narrative and its English translation. The thesis deals with the verb beyond its most frequent, i.e. transitional, function. Disertační práce čerpá z odkazu Jana Firbase a jeho výzkumu v oblasti funkční větné perspektivy (FVP). Je založena na komparativní studii slovesa v českém fiktivním textu a jeho anglickém překladu. Práce se zabývá slovesem mimo jeho nejběžnější funkci v rámci FVP, to jest funkci tranzitu. Namísto toho zkoumá podmínky a pravidla, na jejichž základě se sloveso stává tématem či rématem.
