Formative Assessment in Lower Secondary Education during the Lessons of the English Language

Abstract:

Předložená diplomová práce se věnuje formativnímu hodnocení žáků 2. stupně základní školy. První část práce poskytuje teoretický rámec formativního hodnocení, ale také hodnocení obecně. Tato část se dále zabývá vymezením pojmu formativní hodnocení, jeho podstatou, strategiemi, výhodami a také vztahem mezi formativním a sumativním hodnocením. Praktická část práce sestává ze tří částí, které reprezentují tři fáze akčního výzkumu. První částí je pozorování výuky vyučující a popis jejího způsobu hodnocení žáků. Další částí je zavedení formativního hodnocení do výuky angličtiny 8. ročníku na 2. stupni základní školy a sledování jeho dopadů na výkony žáků. Závěrečnou fázi tvoří hloubkový rozhovor s vyučující, ve kterém vyučující odhaluje svůj náhled na své hodnocení a na formativní hodnocení. Do této fáze patří také ohnisková skupina se žáky, v níž žáci poskytují zpětnou vazbu na zavedení formativního hodnocení do výuky.

Abstract:

This Master’s Thesis deals with formative assessment at lower secondary level. The first part of the thesis provides a theoretical framework for formative assessment and assessment generally. This part also defines the term formative assessment and it further concerns essence of formative assessment, strategies, advantages and also the relationship between formative and summative assessment. The practical part consists of three parts which represent three phases of action research. The first part is observation of a teacher’s instruction and description of her approach to assessment. The next part is introduction of formative assessment to the 8th grade English lessons at lower secondary level and observation of its consequences for pupils’ performance. The final part represents an in-depth interview with the teacher in which she reveals her view on her assessment method and formative assessment. This phase is also represented by a focus group with pupils who provide feedback on introduction of formative assessment.
