The historical and religious context of the work of Saint Teresa of Avila

Abstract:

Cílem práce je přiblížit historickou a náboženskou situaci, která tvoří rámec díla svaté Terezy z Avily. XVI století se ve Španělsku vyznačovalo šířením duchovních směrů jako např. alumbradismo, recogimiento, erasmismus y protestantismus, které ve své době získaly značný společenský vliv. Některé z techto skupin však baly prohlášeny Ikvizicí jako heretické. Inkvizice v této době hrála dúležitou roli ochránce a strážce katolické víry. Tereza z Avily byla často během svého života obviňována a podezřívána z tho, že zastává učení erasmistú, recogidos či alumbradistů. Širší vhled do náboženského prostředí dané doby be mělo vést k lepšímu porozumění díla Terezy y Avily.

Abstract:

The objective of this work is to approximate the religious and historical circumstances concerning the work and life of Saint Teresa. The 16th century was characterized by an intensive growth of spiritual movements like illuminism, recogimiento, erasmism, or Protestantism which in its time gained distinctive social influence. Some of these groups were declared heretical by the Inquisition which used to play and important role of the protector and custodian of the catholic faith. Teresa of Avila during her life used to be accused to sustain precisely the teaching of illuminists, erasmists and recogidos. The broader vision of the religious background is supposed to help in better understanding of her work
