Ethnography of Enforcing Social Control towards the Homeless

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je zjistit, jakým způsobem je interpretováno uplatňování sociální kontroly ze strany strážníků Městské policie v Plzni ve vztahu k bezdomovcům ve veřejném prostoru, a to s důrazem na opatření v době nouzového stavu. V rámci výzkumu jsem se zaměřil na emickou perspektivu strážníků v přímém výkonu služby. Používám metodu zúčastněného pozorování doplněnou o neformální rozhovory a polostrukturované rozhovory. Sleduji jednotné vzorce chování svých informátorů a díky nim odvozuji nejčastější jednání.

Abstract:

The aim of this bachelor thesis is to find out how the application of social control by police officers of the Municipal Police in Pilsen is interpreted in relation to the homeless in public spaces, with the emphasis on measures in times of emergency. As part of my research, I focused on the emic perspective of police officers in the direct performance of their duties. I use a participatory observation method supplemented by informal and semi-structured interviews. I follow the uniform patterns of behaviour of my informants and, thanks to them, I derive the most common actions.
