The application of the Mirror Therapy for the rehabilitation of hemiplegia: case report

Abstract:

L'ictus cerebrale viene definito come un evento neurologico e patologico a livello cerebrale che determina una moltitudine di ripercussioni invalidanti per chi ne ? colpito. Tra queste emerge l'emiplegia, che si caratterizza in termini di una paralisi integrale del lato sinistro o destro del corpo. Con il passaggio tra la fase acuta e quella cronica della patologia, il tono muscolare del paziente passa da una marcata flaccidit? ad una rigidit? spastica, che si accompagna ad altri fenomeni invalidanti. Questa condizione porta ad una totale dipendenza del paziente e ad una conseguente necessit? di mettere in atto un programma terapeutico e riabilitativo complesso e multidisciplinare. Una delle strategie terapeutiche riabilitative, ha come obiettivo quello di ripristinare l'autonomia e l'indipendenza del paziente ictato che viene attuata in sinergia con altri interventi riabilitativi. La mirror therapy (MT) ? una delle strategie di cui un fisioterapista pu? avvalersi.

Abstract:

The cerebral stroke is defined as a neurological and pathological event in the brain that determines a multitude of repercussions that are not valid for those affected. Among these emerges hemiplegia, which is characterized in terms of an integral paralysis of the left side or destruction of the body. With the passage between the acute and the chronic phase of the pathology, the muscle tone of the patient passes from a marked flaccidity to a spastic rigidity, which is accompanied by other invalid phenomena. This condition leads to a total dependence of the patient and a condition of necessity in a complex and multidisciplinary therapeutic and rehabilitative program. One of the rehabilitative therapeutic strategies, aims to restore the autonomy and independence of the ict patient that is implemented in synergy with other rehabilitative interventions. Mirror therapy (MT) is one of the strategies a physiotherapist can use.
