The role of organized civil society in the regulation of gambling

Abstract:

Práce se zaměřuje na koncepty občanské společnosti, třetího sektoru a na roli neziskových organizací v procesu regulace hazardu. Seznamuje čtenáře s dynamikou vývoje občanské společnosti, která problematizuje pokusy o definici či konceptuální ukotvení pojmu, a představuje koncept neziskových organizací, které jsou předmětem empirického zkoumání občanské společnosti. Práce dále konceptualizuje hazardní hry, jakožto kulturní fenomén, jemuž daly vzniknout sociální a ekonomické změny doprovázené změnami státních politik. Představuje blíže nazírání hazardních her v historii jak ve světě, tak v České republice, a osvětluje širší změny v západních společnostech a ekonomikách, které stojí za expanzí a legitimizací hazardního průmysl jako takového. V analytické části práce se autorka zaměřuje na působení konkrétních neziskových organizací v procesu regulace hazardu a identifikuje soubor subjektů, se kterými organizace interagují. Z výsledků zkoumání charakteru těchto interakcí práce předkládá závěry o vnímání role neziskových organizací v České republice v procesu regulace hazardu.

Abstract:

The aim of the thesis is to introduce the concept of civil society, third sector and the role of nonprofit organizations in the process of regulation of gambling. The thesis presents the dynamics of the development of civil society which problematize attempts to define the concept and presents nonprofit organizations which are the subject of empirical analysis of civil society. The thesis further defines gambling as cultural phenomen which gave rise to social and economic transformations accompanied by transformation of state policy and represents a closer perception of gambling in the history of both the world and the Czech Republic and elucidates the broader changes in Western societies and economies, which stands for expansion and legitimization of gambling industry as a whole. In the analytical part, the author focuses on the effect of specific nonprofit organizations in the regulation of gambling and identifies a set of entities with which organizations interact. From results of research the character of these interactions work presents conclusions about the perception of the role of nonprofit organizations in the Czech Republic in the regulation of gambling.
