Abstract:

Diplomová práce “Budování identity Lady Ottoline Morrell” zkoumá život a dílo modernistické mecenášky Lady Ottoline Morrell. Zaměřuje se přitom na úsilí, se kterým pracovala na své veřejné i soukromé prezentaci, která ji odlišuje od jiných umělců a mecenášů té doby. S pomocí životopisů, dopisů a deníků Lady Morrell a jejích současníků poukazuje tato práce na její odvážnou nekonvenčnost a oddanost propagování výtvarných a literárních děl. Cílem této práce je odborně analyzovat tuto fascinující osobnost a vyvolat debatu stran jejího všeobecného vnímání.

Abstract:

The master’s thesis “Beyond Dreams of Avarice: The Self-Fashioning of Lady Ottoline Morrell” examines the life and work of a modernist patron Lady Ottoline Morrell. It does so with a focus on the effort she has put into the thorough shaping of her private and public self, which has set her apart from the other artists and patrons of the era. Relying mostly on biographies, letters and diaries of Lady Morrell and her contemporaries, it presents the subject’s bold unconventionality and devotion to promoting works of art and literature. The aim of this thesis is to provide an academic study of this fascinating figure and to call for a reconsideration of the way she is generally perceived.
