The process of commodification in the cosplay community

Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá vlivem tržního systému na cosplay komunitu. Cosplay, složený z anglických slov costume a play, je koníček, který je založen na tvorbě kostýmů a propriet různých postav dle předlohy (knižní, herní, filmová, seriálová) a ztvárnění charakteru a gest během jeho nošení. Člověk, který se tomuto koníčku věnuje je pak nazýván cosplayer. Cosplayová komunita je v současné době rozptýlená téměř po celém světě. Stejně mohutně je rozšířený tržní systém, který stojí na základech poptávky a nabídky na trhu a zásadně ovlivňuje většinu společností a má moc přetvářet hodnoty a postoje k různým věcem. Porozumět tomu, jakým způsobem se stávají z věcí, lidí nebo vědění komodity v rámci této komunity a jak tuto transformaci využívají cosplayeři k dosažení plnohodnotného zaměstnání v tomto oboru je cílem této práce. Práce bude metodologicky spočívat v terénním výzkumu a práci se sekundárními prameny. Výzkum bude probíhat formou zúčastněného pozorování na konkrétních festivalech v České republice, vedením terénního deníku, pořizováním fotografií a nestrukturovanými rozhovory s cosplayery, organizátory festivalů a zástupci firem angažovaných v cosplay komunitě.

Abstract:

This thesis is dedicated to the influence of the market system on the cosplay community. Cosplay, composited of words costumes and play, is a hobby that is based on the creation of costumes and propriet of various characters based on the artwork (book, game, film, series) of the character and playing its nature during wearing the costume. The person who devotes himself to this hobby is then called cosplayer. The Cosplay community is currently scattered around the world. Equally powerful is the widespread market system that is based on market demands and offers, and has a major impact on most societies and has the power to transform values and attitudes to things. The aim of this work is to understand how things, people or thoughts commodities within this community and how cosplayers use this transformation to achieve a full-fledged job. The work will be methodologically based on field research and work with secondary sources. The research will take place in the form of participating observations at specific festivals in the Czech Republic, by writing a field diary, taking photographs and by non-structured interviews with cosplayers, festival organizers and representatives of companies involved in the cosplay community.
