The Relationship between Sexual Frequency and Relationship Satisfaction in Women Aged 50+

Abstract:

Bakalářská práce měla za cíl zkoumat vztah partnerské spokojenosti, frekvence sexu a nekoitálních praktik u žen nad 50 let v heterosexuálním vztahu. V teoretické části je rozvedeno téma proměn sexuality ve stáří, dále jsou nastíněna specifika ženského pojetí sexu a propojení sexuality s partnerskou spokojeností. V praktické části byla provedena analýza dat 308 žen z České a Slovenské republiky ve věku 50-79 let (M=59,8; SD=6,8). Závislou proměnnou byla partnerská spokojenost. Nejprve byl ověřen vztah partnerské spokojenosti s frekvencí sexu a nekoitálních praktik při kontrole věku, zdraví obou partnerů a postojů k sexualitě ve starším věku pomocí hierarchické lineární regrese a následně byla pomocí Welschova t-testu porovnána spokojenost žen, které neprovozují žádné sexuální praktiky, s těmi, které mají sex alespoň v některé z jeho podob. Výsledky ukazují pozitivní vztah mezi frekvencí penilně-vaginálního sexu a partnerskou spokojeností, stejně tak nekoitální praktiky fungují jako významný prediktor partnerské spokojenosti. Výskyt nekoitálních praktik snižuje vliv frekvence pohlavního styku na spokojenost. T-test nabízí podporu hypotézy, že ženy, které nemají sex, vykazují nižší partnerskou spokojenost.

Abstract:

This bachelor's thesis focuses on the study of relationship satisfaction in relation with sex frequency and non-coital sexual activities among women over 50 in heterosexual relationships. In the theoretical part, the changes of sexuality at old age are introduced, then the specifics of women's perception of sex are further explained, and the connection between sexuality and relationship satisfaction is outlined. In the practical part the data of 308 Czech and Slovak women aged 50-79 years (M=59.8; SD=6.8) were analysed. First a hierarchic linear regression was done to examine the relationship of satisfaction as the dependent variable with frequency of sexual intercourse and non-coital sexual practices with age, health of both partners and attitude towards sexuality at older age as control variables. Then a Welsch t-test was used to compare the satisfaction of women who do not engage in any sexual practices with those who have any form of sex. The results show a positive relationship between partner satisfaction and frequency of sex. Also, non-coital practices are a significant predictor of relationship satisfaction. Presence of non-coital practices lowers the effect of sexual intercourse on relationship satisfaction. The t-test offers support for the hypothesis that women who do not have any sex show lower relationship satisfaction.
