The transformation of the chemical industry in the Czech Republic after 1989.

Abstract:

V ČR došlo v roce 1989 k významným politickým, společenským a hospodářským změnám, které se promítly i do sektoru průmyslu. Práce se zabývala změnami struktury chemického průmyslu po roce 1989 a zjišťovala, jak se změna projevila na zaměstnanosti v jednotlivých krajích ČR a jaké jsou možné podpory chemického průmyslu na regionální úrovni. Pro posouzení zaměstnanosti byly východiskem údaje z databáze SLBD za roky 1991, 2001 a 2011. Na příkladu 10 největších firem chemického průmyslu byla analyzována jejich historie včetně transformačních procesů a vybraných hospodářských ukazatelů-zaměstnanosti a tržeb. Vývoj chemického průmyslu ve vybraných ukazatelích byl sledován ve dvou časových řadách. První řada představuje období před rokem 1989 po rok 2007, druhá řada od roku 2008 do roku 2017. Výsledky indikují, že změna struktury chemického průmyslu ovlivnila zaměstnanost v jednotlivých krajích. Chemický průmysl je v pořadí druhým nejsilnějším odvětvím zpracovatelského průmyslu, z hlediska hospodářských výsledků, zaměstnanosti a tržeb má vzrůstající tendenci. Pro zachování udržitelnosti a konkurenceschopnosti je nutná modernizace, inovace a spolupráce odvětví vědy a výzkumu s výrobními subjekty s využitím všech nástrojů podpory jak z národních zdrojů, tak ze zdrojů Evropské unie.

Abstract:

In 1989 Czech Republic experienced number of political, social and economic changes that also impacted several industries. This thesis is dealing with structural changes in Czech chemical industry after year 1989, and how these changes influenced employment in Czech regions, and what are possible scenarios to support the chemical industry at regional level. Data from the Czech national database for years 1991, 2001 and 2011 were used to assess the employment rate. The history of ten largest chemical companies in the region including respective revenues, employment rates as well as transformation processes have been analysed. The chemical industry development was observed during two time series. The first time series represents the period of time from year 1989 until year 2007 and before, and the second one represents the period of time from year 2008 until year 2017. The results indicate that the change in the structure of the chemical industry really had an impact on employment rate at regional level. Chemical industry represents the second largest sector in manufacturing industry with an upward trend detected in terms of profitability, employment and revenues. Research and development closely cooperating with manufacturing sector, innovations utilizing all support instruments from both, national as well as EU resources, all appear to be crucial to keep sustainability and competitiveness of the sector for the future.
