Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je analyzovat některé tragické postavy Williama Shakespeara a poukázat na jejich charakterové vlastnosti za účelem prokázat, že Shakespeare užívá určitý vzorec k vytvoření jak poučných tak působivých dramat. První kapitola vysvětluje podstatu dobře napsané tragédie obecně, popisuje některá témata a konvence Alžbětinské tragédie a poskytuje základní vhled do tématu. Tato kapitola nabízí vysvětlení, že tragédie není záležitostí náhody nebo nehody, ale spíše lidského selhání způsobeného nevyzrálostí, která se projevuje nekontrolovanou vášní. Druhá část práce zkoumá konkrétní povahu jednotlivých hrdinů. Každý z nich je analyzován z hlediska jejich charakterových vlastností. Relevantnost je dokazována buď citací konkrétní pasáže z dané hry, nebo s použitím sekundárních zdrojů.

Abstract:

This bachelor’s thesis deals with what makes Shakespeare’s tragedies timeless. The main aim of the thesis is to analyze some of the tragic characters and emphasize their characteristics in order to prove that Shakespeare uses a specific pattern to create educative as well as impressive dramas. The first chapter explains the substance of a well written tragedy in general. The text describes some themes and conventions of Elizabethan tragedy and provides a basic insight into the subject. The second part of the thesis observes particular characters of particular tragic heroes. Each of the heroes is analyzed from the point of view of their characteristic features. The relevance is proved either by providing a citation of a particular passage from a particular play or by consulting the issues with secondary sources.
