The role of a monarch in modern parliamentary monarchies

Abstract:

Parlamentní forma vlády patří k nejrozšířenějším formám vlády ve světě. V současném světě je mnohem pravděpodobnější setkat se s republikami než s monarchiemi. Avšak i v monarchiích došlo v důsledku historických událostí k postupné demokratizaci. Z absolutních monarchií se staly monarchie konstituční a parlamentní. V parlamentních monarchiích jsou pravomoci monarchy zpravidla dány ústavou a jeho funkce je spíše reprezentační. Práce je zaměřena na role monarchů ve vybraných státech parlamentních monarchií, které srovnává. Práce také posuzuje, zda byly současné pravomoci a postavení monarchů ovlivněny způsobem tranzice. Pro práci byly zvoleny následující státy parlamentních monarchií: Spojené království Velké Británie a Severního Irska, Španělské království a Japonsko.

Abstract:

The parliamentary form of government is one of the most common forms of government in the world. In the contemporary world, you are much more likely to encounter republics than monarchies. However, even monarchies have seen gradual democratization as a result of historical events. Absolute monarchies have become constitutional and parliamentary monarchies. In parliamentary monarchies, the powers of the monarch are generally given by the constitution and his function tends to be more representative. This thesis focuses on the roles of monarchs in selected states of parliamentary monarchies and compares them. The thesis also examines whether the current powers and status of monarchs have been affected by the mode of transition. The following states of parliamentary monarchies were chosen for the thesis: the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the Kingdom of Spain and Japan.
