American Streamlined Modern - The Tomorrow That Never Was?

Abstract:

Spojené státy dosáhly během období mezi světovými válkami výrazného ekonomického a technologického pokroku. Spolu se stoupajícím tržním potenciálem obyvatelstva rostl i počet a kvalita nabízených služeb. Pokrok v technologiích usnadnil každodenní život a zmenšil vzdálenosti. Široká veřejnost byla, i přes světovou hospodářskou krizi, stále pozitivně naladěna na nastavenou technokratickou vlnu, nakročena a plna očekávaní v zářnou budoucnost (nejlépe plně automatizovanou, neomezenou, sterilní). Ta však musela počkat, jelikož v roce 1941 vstoupily Spojené státy do války. Poválečná 50. léta svou hojností znovu myšlenku technokratické utopie, zejména u americké střední třídy, rehabilitovala, avšak již v jiné formě. V této práci se budu snažit seznámit případného čtenáře s meziválečnými a poválečnými reáliemi a trendy, za jejichž přispění tyto vize technologického utopismu vznikaly. A posléze se promítaly do dobové architektonické a designérské tvorby

Abstract:

United States has achieved significant economical and technological advance in the period between World Wars. With the increasing market potential of its population number and quality of offering services also grew. Progresss in technology simplified everyday life and reduced distances. General public despite Great Depresion was still positively tuned on and set at technocratic wave, full of expectations in shining future (fully automatized, unlimited and sterill). But this had to wait, because in 1941 entered United States into War. Afterwar fifties with its wealth the idea of technocratic utopia rehabilitated, but in a whole different way. In the Thesis I will try to introduce to subject reader an inter and after war realities and trends, which thanks to their contriinbution these vison of technological utopia has originated. And after it projected into contemporary architectural and designer production.
