Subsistence farming in the countryside: a case of study Brno suburban countryside

Abstract:

V této práci se věnujeme problematice samozásobitelského zemědělství. Tento způsob hospodaření prošel za dlouhou dobu řadou změn a i dnes je mezi lidmi populární. Přesto je mu v rámci geografie věnována menší pozornost než například v sociologii nebo environmentálních studiích. Proto je práce rozdělena na dvě části – teoretickou a analytickou. V teoretické části jsou uvedeny cíle a metody výzkumu, je provedena rešerše literatury a vysvětlení pojmu samozásobitelské zemědělství, a také představen stručný historický přehled tohoto typu hospodaření. V analytické části je představeno zkoumané území a také analyzován výzkum, včetně diskuse a shrnutí. Hlavní metodou pro získání dat bylo zvoleno dotazníkové šetření. Zpracování dotazníků je převážně kvantitativními metodami. Doplněno je o komparaci dle sídelní struktury zkoumané oblasti. Výsledek práce je do značné míry v souladu s předpoklady týkající se této formy hospodaření.

Abstract:

In this thesis, we apply ourselves to the issue of subsistence farming. This method of farming went through numerous changes in a long period of time and it is popular among people even today. Despite this, less attention is provided to it within geography than, for example, in sociology or environmental studies. That’s the reason why this thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and analytical. In the theoretical part, aims and methods of the research are described, literature search is conducted, an explanation of the term subsistence farming is provided and the section also presents a brief historical overview of this type of farming. The analytical part introduces the researched area and it also analyses the research and provides a discussion and a summary. Questionnaire survey was chosen as the primary method for data collection. Processing of questionnaires was done mainly using quantitative methods. It is supplemented with comparisons according to development structures of the researched area. To a great extent, the result of this thesis confirms the assumptions with respect to this form of farming.
