The Film Music of Michael Nyman with Focus on Jane Campion's Film The Piano

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce se zaměřuje na filmovou tvorbu Michaela Nymana, konkrétně na film The Piano. V první části bakalářské práce je popsán život skladatele Michaela Nymana, který se zdaleka nevěnuje jen tvorbě filmové hudby, a proto je nutné se o jeho práci zmínit v širším a ucelenějším kontextu. V další části práce je popsána tvorba jeho filmové hudby obecně, nejen ve vztahu ke stěžejnímu dílu mé práce. Dále se práce bude věnovat již konkrétní spolupráci skladatele a režisérky Jane Campion na filmu The Piano a informacím o něm. Klíčová část práce je vymezena pro analýzu zvukové stránky díla a vysvětlení její symboliky a funkce.

Abstract:

This bachelor thesis is focused on the film music of Michael Nyman, specifically on film The Piano. In the first part of my thesis I described a life of composer Michael Nyman, who made not only film music and therefore it is necessary to mention his work more widely, not only with connection to the main work of my thesis. Further, this thesis is focused on the cooperation of the composer and the director Jane Campion on the film The Piano and on information about this film. The main part of my thesis is defined for the analysis of the audio part of the film and an explanation of its symbolism and function.
