In the first part, the thesis deals with the division of hydrocarbons, especially in terms of their structure. Subsequently, the chemical composition of petroleum is described with emphasis on the most abundant petroleum hydrocarbons, which are n-alkanes. V prvej časti sa práca venuje uhľovodíkom a ich klasifikácii, predovšetkým z hľadiska štruktúry. Následne je opísané chemické zloženie ropy s dôrazom na najviac zastúpené ropné uhľovodíky, ktorými sú n alkány. Súčasťou sú aj rozdiely v zložení medzi rôznymi druhmi ropy, spolu s najznámejšími ložiskami, svetovými producentmi a konzumentmi ropy.
