The Possibility of Hospitalization and Outpatient Treatment of a Disabled Patient Accompanied with a Service Dog

Abstract:

Cíl: Cílem bakalářské práce bylo zjistit, jak přistupují jednotlivá zdravotnická zařízení k možnosti hospitalizace a ambulantního ošetření handicapovaného pacienta v doprovodu asistenčního psa. Dílčím cílem bylo tuto problematiku přiblížit osobní zkušeností handicapované osoby. Metodika: Průzkum byl realizován pomocí nestandardizovaného dotazníku, který byl e-mailem rozeslán do vybraných nemocnic, poliklinik a soukromých ambulancí v České republice. Průzkumné šetření probíhalo v první půlce března 2012. Výsledky: Na základě získaných dat bylo zjištěno, že většina zdravotnických zařízení, která se zapojila do průzkumu, by umožnila vstup asistenčního psa do svých prostor, ať už by se jednalo o ambulantní ošetření či hospitalizaci. Většina z nich ale dodává, že by byla nutná jistá omezení či opatření, která by tuto situaci doprovázela. Závěr: Výsledky průzkumného šetření ukázaly, že jelikož neexistuje jasná právní norma, která by jasně upravovala situace, kdy pacient chce vstoupit do zdravotnického zařízení i s asistenčním psem, zdravotnická zařízení si mohou tuto situaci upravit ve vnitřním řádu podle svých možností a zkušeností a vstup s asistenčním psem dovolit, omezit nebo úplně zakázat.

Abstract:

The aim: The aim of this thesis was to find what the approach of different health institutions is to possibilities of hospitalization and outpatient treatment of a handicapped patient accompanied by a service dog. A component aim was to make this problem more familiar by a personal experience of a handicapped person. Methodology: The survey was performed with a nonstandard questionarie that was sent to certain hospitals, health centres and private ambulances in The Czech Republic. The survey was performed in the first half of March 2012. Results: On the base of the gained data it was found that most of the health institutions, which took part at the survey, would allow the service dog into their buildings at the case of either outpatient treatment or hospitalization. However most of them add that it might be necessary to apply some restrictions and measures at that situations. Conclusion: The results of the survey showed that as there is no clear law standard which would regulate the situations when a service dog accompanied patient wants to enter a health institution, the institutions can apply some measures for such cases in their internal rules according their possibilities and experience and thus allow, restrict or even prohibit the service dogs.
