Sources and roles of reactive oxygen species during cellular response to hypoxia

Abstract:

Tato bakalářská práce pojednává o úloze reaktivních kyslíkových metabolitů v hypoxii. Je zde popsána základní charakteristika těchto metabolitů, jejich typy a zdroje a jak jejich působení ovlivňuje celý organismus. Hladina reaktivních kyslíkových metabolitů je regulována látkami zvanými antioxidanty. Pokud jsou buňky nebo tkáně vystaveny hypoxii, dochází ke změnám v produkci těchto metabolitů, především v mitochondriích. V práci jsou popsány protichůdné názory autorů na tuto problematiku. V současné době většina autorů podporuje teorii o zvyšování reaktivních metabolitů kyslíku v hypoxii.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the role o reactive oxygen species in hypoxia. It describes the basic characteristic, types and sources od these metabolites and their effect on the whole organism. The level of reactive oxygen species is regulated by antioxidants. If the cells or tissues are exposed to hypoxia it causes changes in production of these species especially in mitochondria. The thesis describes opposing opinions of the authors on this issue. Currently, most authors support the theory of increased reactive oxygen species production during hypoxia.
