The Use of the Spanish Gerund Periphrases in Journalistic and Scientific Styles

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is to study and analyze the use of the verbal periphrases with the gerunds in Spanish in the publicistic and scientific styles. The theoretical part deals with the concept of verbal periphrases, its structure and different terminology. We also focus on syntactic and semantic characteristics of the verb periphrases. Another theoretical chapter is devoted to verbal periphrases classifications. Different author?s concepts are mentioned but the key is to present division of verbal periphrases according to the Spanish Royal Academy. The last chapter is devoted to verbal periphrases of the gerunds and its meanings. The practical part is devoted to analyzing the frequency of use periphrastic verbal constructions with transgressive in the publicistic and scientific styles. The analysis is performed on two corpus formed by a total of 146 examples extracted from different sources. The main objective of this thesis is to identify and demonstrate what is the frequency of use of these periphrases in the publicistic and scientific styles. The result of this thesis is that verbal periphrases with transgressive are far more often used in publicistic style than in scientific style.

Abstract:

Cílem této bakalářské práce je studium a analýza používání slovesných perifrází s přechodníkem v publicistickém a vědeckém stylu. V teoretické části se zabýváme konceptem slovesné perifráze, její strukturou a rozdílnou terminologií. Dále se zaměřujeme na syntaktickou a sémantickou charakteristiku slovesných perifrází. Další kapitola teoretické části je věnována klasifikacím slovesných perifrází. Uvádíme několik koncepcí různých autorů, ale jako stěžejní předkládáme dělení slovesných perifrází dle Španělské královské akademie. Poslední kapitola teoretické části se věnuje slovesným perifrázím s přechodníkem a významům, které mohou tyto perifráze mít. Praktická část této práce je věnována analýze frekvence používání slovesných vazeb opisných s přechodníkem v publicistickém a odporném stylu. Analýza byla provedena na dvou korpusech tvořených celkem 146 příklady excerpovanými z různých pramenů. Hlavním cílem této práce bylo zjistit a následně na příkladech doložit, jaká je frekvence používání těchto perifrází v publicistickém a vědeckém funkčím stylu. Výsledkem této práce je zjištění, že slovesné perifráze s přechodníkem se daleko častěji používají v publicistickém stylu, než ve stylu vědeckém.
