Synthesis and toxicity of metal nanoparticles

Abstract:

Kovové nanočástice mají rozsáhlé spektrum použití a díky svým výjimečným vlastnostem se dostaly do lidského života ze všech stráň, proto je důležité vědět o způsobech jejich syntézy a výsledných vlastnostech, aby bylo možné předpovědět možné toxické účinky. Nanočástice oxidu titaničitého jsou často aplikované jako pigment v kosmetických prostředcích a v léčivých přípravcích, kvůli čemu organismus je stále vystaven jejímu působení. Vlastnosti, včetně zajímající schopnosti odrážet viditelné světlo a UV záření, a možnou toxicitu ovlivňují hlavně velikost a tvar částic, které se určují procesem zvaným charakterizace. V experimentální části práce je popsáno provedení těchto postupů analýzou dynamického rozptylu světla a skenovací elektronovou mikroskopií po syntéze nanočástic TiO2 termolýzou. Dané postupy jsou vhodné pro použití ve výzkumu nebo v průmyslu. Výsledky získané těmito metodami je možné použit dále pro hodnocení toxicity a následné posouzení o bezpečnost použití vyrobeného materiálu.

Abstract:

Metal nanoparticles have a wide range of applications, and, thanks to their exceptional properties, they have entered human life from all sides, therefore it is important to know about their synthesis methods and the resulting properties to predict possible toxic effects. Nanoparticles of titanium dioxide are often applied as a pigment in cosmetics and medicines, which is why the body is still exposed to it. Properties, including the interesting ability to reflect visible light and UV radiation and potential toxicity, are mainly influenced by the size and shape of the particles, which are determined by a process called characterization. The experimental part of the work describes the execution of these procedures by dynamic light scattering analysis and scanning electron microscopy after the synthesis of TiO2 nanoparticles by thermal decomposition. The following procedures are suitable for use in research or industry. The results obtained by these methods can be used further for the evaluation of toxicity and subsequent assessment of the safety of the use of this material.
