Over the past decades, women have made considerable progress in reaching equality with men. However, when looking at positions of leadership all over the world, women remain to be underrepresented.The EU has embraced an agenda of gender-balanced representation of women in political decision-making already for quite some years. However, still in 2017 women remain to be persistently underrepresented in political assemblies across Europe and in the European Parliament itself. This underrepresentation of women in political leadership and gender quotas as tool to increase the number of women in politics will be the focus of this research.

Abstract:
