Cyberbullying among adolescents: coping strategies

Abstract:

Cílem této práce je podat přehled o dosavadních poznatcích v oblasti kyberšikany a s ní souvisejících copingových strategiích u adolescentů. Dalším cílem je prozkoumání souvislostí mezi závažností dopadu obtěžování online a dalších demografických a psychosociálních proměnných na používání určitých typů copingových strategií. Za tímto účelem jsem analyzovala data od 452 respondentů ve věku 12 – 18 let, kteří pocházeli z náhodně vybraných základních a středních škol v Jihomoravském kraji. Předpokládala jsem, že adolescenti, které obtěžování online trápí hodně, používají více neadaptivní typy copingových strategií než ti, které obtěžování online trápí málo. Tento předpoklad se nepotvrdil. Explorační analýza dat přinesla poznatky o některých demografických a psychosociálních proměnných, které mají vliv na použití určitých typů copingových strategií. Nejčastěji mělo vliv na šanci, s jakou bude daná copingová strategie použita, pohlaví jedince, citová vazba k vrstevníkům a závažnost a trvání dopadu obtěžování online na jedince. Výsledky výzkumu je možné dále použít především ve školní praxi v rámci osvětové a preventivní činnosti a také při zvládání následků kyberšikany.

Abstract:

The aim of this thesis is an overview of current findings on cyberbullying and related coping strategies in adolescents. Another aim is to explore the relationships between the severity of the impact of online harassment and other demographic and psychosocial variables on the use of certain types of coping strategies. To this end, I analyzed data from 452 respondents aged 12 to 18 years who came from randomly selected primary and secondary schools in South Moravia. I assumed that the adolescents who heavily suffer from online harassment use more types of non-adaptive coping strategies than those who suffer from online harassment to a lesser extent. However, this assumption was not confirmed. The exploratory data analysis brought some knowledge of the demographic and psychosocial variables that have impact on use of certain types of coping strategies. Most had the effect on a chance, which will be given to the coping strategies used, the sex of the individual, emotional relationship to peers and the severity and duration of the impact of online harassment. Research results can be used mostly in school practice during the educational and preventive activities, as well as in helping with coping with the consequences of cyberbullying.
