Classical description of fundamental strings and D-branes and their relation to the AdS/CFT correspondence

Anotace:

Strunová teorie je bohatý a elegantní systém, který každým dnem přináší vzrušující výsledky. Rostoucí význam AdS/CFT korespondence poskytuje slibný krok mezi strunovou teorií na pozadí anti-de Sitterova prostoru a konformní teorií pole definované na hranicích tohoto prostoru. Tato hypotéza vedla k intenzivnímu výzkumu, jak na strane super Yang-Mills teorie, tak na straně superstrunové teorie. Tyto teorie byly zkoumání s pomocí jedné z jejich nejpozoruhodnejších vlastností, kterou je integrabilita. Integrabilní systémy byly podrobne studovány již v minulosti a metody, které byly při tomto vyzkumu osvojeny, jsou nyní aplikovány i na problematiku AdS/CFT korespondence. V této disertaci se zameríme na určité výpočty, které byly provedeny na straně strunové teorie. Je známo, že ruzná klasická řešení pohybových rovnic fundamentální struny na pozadí $AdS_5\times S^5$ odpovídají stavum duální teorie pole, které není možné popsat pomocí klasické poruchové teorie. Z těchto duvodu je velmi užitečné studovat klasická řešení strunové teorie na ruzných pozadích. Například, zaměříme se na studium vlastostní a dynamiky fundamentální struny a D1-brány, které se propagují na pozadí, které vzniklo pomocí specifické deformace puvodního AdS prostoru. Charakteristickou vlastností těchto deformací je to, že zachovávají integrabilitu, která je velmi užitečná při studiu klasických řešení. Tato disertační práce je založena na výsledcích, které byly publikovány ve třech článcích. V první části této práce se hlavně zameříme na problematiku specifického řešení strunových pohybových rovnic známém jako "Giant magnon", kde studujeme strunu na deformovaném $AdS_3\times S^3$ pozadí, kde další pole na pozadí, jakým je dilatonové pole a RR pole, mají netriviální hodnoty. Určíme dispersní relaci mezi energií a momentem hybnosti J v limite nekonečně velkého J, kde J odpovídá jednomu z SO(6) náboji z pohledu duální kalibrační teorie pole. Ukážeme, že tato dispersní relace je modifikací disperzní relace určené J. Maldacenou a D. Hofmanem určenou v případě pohybu struny na nedeformovaném $AdS_5\times S^5$ pozadí. Nicméně, dispersní relace určená v našem článku se redukuje do dispersní relace odpovídající řešení na nedeformovaném pozadí v případě, kdy deformační parametr se blíží nule. Jako další možnost jak stududovat deformované pozadí, se zaměříme na testovací D1-bránu v tomto pozadí. Studujeme řešení odpovídajících rovnic, které jsou časově či prostorove závislá. Zjistímě, že zavedení deformačního parametru vede k nových a zajímavých výsledkum, které silně závisejí na deformačním parametru a. Ve třetím článku zkoumáme (m;n)-strunu na pozadí se smíšenými toky specifického kalibračního pole. Ukážeme, že $AdS_3\times S^3$ muže být definován jako specifický limitní případ pozadí, jehož zdrojem je vázaný stav NS5-bran a fundamentálních strun. Ukážeme, že (m;n)-struna v tomto pozadí odpovídá specifické (m';n')-struně na pozadí s nenulovým NSNS polem. Díky této vlastnosti jsme opět schopni najít řešení pohybových rovnic pro(m;n)-strunu na pozadí se smíšenými toky.

Abstract:

String theory is a rich and elegant framework that is producing alluring results day after day. The growing appeal of the AdS/CFT correspondence provides a promising bridge between string theory in Anti de Sitter backgrounds and conformal field theories living on their boundary. This has led to intense research on both sides of the conjecture using the integrability of both theories as a starting point and a method to simplify the computations. In this dissertation, we focus on the computations done on the string theory side. Various classical string solutions in $AdS_5\times S^5$ have been reported as a way to uncover the underlying mysteries of the corresponding gauge theories that are intractable in the non-perturbative regime. We analyze certain string solutions in different interesting backgrounds. We study basic properties and dynamics of fundamental strings and D1-branes moving on a deformed background. We do this in the framework of the AdS/CFT correspondence using the integrability of the theory that is preserved by this deformation. The results of three papers are presented in this thesis. The first part of this work deals fundamentally with the problem of solving the giant magnon solutions of strings moving on deformed $AdS_3 \times S^3$. We derive the corresponding dispersion relation in the infinite $J$ limit, where $J$ represents one of the $SO(6)$ charges from the gauge theory side. It turns out that there is a modification in the dispersion relation than the ordinary one that was computed by Hofman and Maldacena in the non-deformed $AdS_5 \times S^5$. Nevertheless, in the limit where the deformation parameter goes to zero, one can reproduce the latter dispersion relation of the non-deformed background. Next, we move to the second part that deals with the dynamics of D1-branes in the same deformed $AdS_3 \times S^3$ background with non-trivial dilaton and Ramond-Ramond fields. We study the solutions of the time-dependent ansatz as well as the static ansatz. We will see that the presence of the deformation parameter introduces new interesting results. We find that the behavior of these solutions crucially depends on the value of parameter $a$ and discuss the possibility of the D1-brane to reach the limit of the deformed space in each case. Several special cases are also studied and discussed. Finally, in the third part, we investigate $(m,n)$-strings in $AdS_3\times S^3$ with mixed three-form flux. We show that the $AdS_3\times S^3$ can be constructed in the near horizon limit of the $SL(2,Z)$ of the bound state of NS5-branes and fundamental strings. Showing that $(m,n)$-string in $AdS_3\times S^3$ with mixed three-form flux can be mapped to $(m',n')$-string in $AdS_3$ background with pure NS-NS field, we study the giant magnon and spike configurations in presence of $B_{NS}$ field. We then study the case of a pulsating $(m,n)$-string in $AdS_3$ background with NS-NS field.
