Abstract:

Tato práce se zabývá tématem ženského útlaku v díle Virginie Woolfové "Orlando" (1928). Úvodní část práce se zaměřuje na posouzení spolehlivosti historické a kulturní výpovědi, na cenzuru a na kritické a kulturní přijetí díla. Analytická část práce se zaobírá vyobrazením oprese žen v rámci socio-kulturního a historického kontextu a jeho následnou ilustrací/konfrontací v díle Woolfové. Tato část práce se soustředí především na ženy z vyšší společnosti ve Velké Británii v období od 18. do počátku 20. století. Cílem práce je prozkoumat, jak román odhaluje nerovnost žen nejen v oblastech jako jsou genderové role či omezení práv a svobod, ale i v rámci využití módy, jako prostředku k fyzickému omezení, oslabení a objektivizaci žen, která z nich činila objekty mužského potěšení.

Abstract:

This thesis deals with the topic of female oppression in Virginia Woolf's novel "Orlando" (1928). The introductory part of this thesis focuses on the accuracy of the historical and cultural evidence, the censorship, and the critical and cultural reception of the novel. The analytical part concentrates on the depiction of female repression in the socio-cultural and historical context and its subsequent illustration/confrontation in Woolf's novel. This part mainly focuses on women from the upper-class in Great Britain, from the eighteenth until the beginning of the twentieth century. The goal of this thesis is to explore how the novel reveals female inequality not only in the area of gender roles and the deprivation of rights and freedoms but also within the usage of fashion as a tool of physical obstruction, weakening and objectification of women, which made them into objects of male pleasure.
