Factors affecting the procrastination of management students of the Master's program

Abstract:

Hlavným cieľom tejto práce bolo zistiť, či majú študenti magisterského programu na Fakulte managementu problém s prokrastináciou a či v ich prípade existuje vzťah medzi prokrastináciou a motivačnými faktormi. Pomocou rešerše odbornej literatúry som objasnila tému prokrastinácie, osobnosti, motivácie a taktiež popis internality, flow, sebakontroly a self-efficacy, ako vybraných motivačných faktorov. Pre zber dát som využila online dotazník a dáta som spracovala popisnou štatistikou. Výsledky som následne prezentovala a interpretovala a v diskusii som zodpovedala stanovené výskumne otázky. Na základe zistenia rozšírenej prokrastinácie v oblasti štúdia v rámci výskumnej vzorky som uviedla odporúčania k eliminácii prokrastinácie a návrh využitia získaných poznatkov v manažérskej praxi. V oblasti práce sa u študentov nepreukázalo silné prokrastinačné chovanie, preto som tiež došla k záveru, že prokrastinácia v danej výskumnej vzorke závisí od prostredia. Taktiež sa v niekoľkých prípadoch preukázali mierne závislosti medzi mierou prokrastinácie u jednotlivých typov prokrastinátorov a vybranými faktormi.

Abstract:

The main objective of this diploma thesis was to find out whether students of the Master's program at the Faculty of management had a problem with procrastination and whether there was a relationship between procrastination and motivational factors in their case. The literature review that I collated has enabled me to explain the theory on the topic of procrastination, personality and motivation and also with description of the following terms: internality, flow, self-control and self-efficacy, as the motivational factors that I selected for my research. I used an online questionnaire to collect the data, and I processed the data using descriptive statistics. I then presented and interpreted the results and I discussed my findings by answering the research questions. The findings showed there is widespread procrastination in academic environment of the students in research sample. I have made recommendations for elimination of procrastination and a proposal on how to apply the knowledge in the management practice. In the field of work, the students did not show a strong procrastination behavior, so I also came to the conclusion that the procrastination in the research sample depends on the environment. Also, in some cases, there was a slight correlation between the level of procrastination of individual types of procrastinators and the selected factors.
