Tato práce si klade za cíl představit vztah Japonců ke zvířatům a jeho transformaci v průběhu japonských dějin. Přední roli ve vývoji tohoto vztahu hrálo náboženství, jež mělo vliv na to, jak bylo na zvířata nahlíženo a na jejich postavení ve světě lidí.
