Animals in the history of Japan: From the vengeful spirits to the beloved family members

Abstract:

Tato práce si klade za cíl představit vztah Japonců ke zvířatům a jeho transformaci v průběhu japonských dějin. Přední roli ve vývoji tohoto vztahu hrálo náboženství, jež mělo vliv na to, jak bylo na zvířata nahlíženo a na jejich postavení ve světě lidí. Dále se práce zabývá změnami v japonské společnosti probíhající díky přejímání ideových a kulturních prvků z Číny a Západu a jak toto přejímání působilo na tradiční i nové náboženské proudy v otázce zvířat jakožto součást života lidí.

Abstract:

This thesis aims to introduce relationship of Japanese to animals and its transformation in the course of Japanese history. A leading role in the development of this relationship played a religion which had an impact on how animals were viewed by Japanese and animals role in the human world. It also deals with changes in Japanese society due to the ongoing acceptance of ideological and cultural elements from China and the West and how this acceptance operated on both traditional and new religious currents in the question of animals as part of people's lives.
