‘Never mind all those Prayers for Peace’. Boudewijn de Groot as a Protest Singer in the Sixties and the First Half of the Seventies.

Abstract:

60. roky 20. storočia boli bohaté na spoločenské udalosti, ako napríklad protesty spájané najmä s túžbou po zmene v spoločnosti. Najčastejšou témou protestov šesťdesiatych rokov bola vojna vo Vietname a prosby o mier, ale aj napríklad uznanie práv menšín. Týmito témami sa zaoberala hlavne mladá generácia, ktorá so sebou prinášala nové formy umenia a predovšetkým hudby, spojené s danými spoločenskými problémami. Najrozšírenejšími boli protestné piesne. Tými sa preslávil aj Boudewijn de Groot, ktorý za jeho tvorbu v období od 1960 do 1975 získal prezývku protestný spevák. Predložená práca sa zameria na otázku, do akej miery môžeme považovať Boudewijna de Groota za protestného speváka, vzhľadom na podiel protestných piesní vo vymedzenom období tvorby.

Abstract:

The 1960s were rich in social events, such as protests mainly associated with the desire for change in society. The most frequent topics of the protests of the 1960s were the war in Vietnam and prayers for peace, but also, for example, the recognition of the rights of minorities. These topics were dealt with mainly by the young generation, which brought along new forms of art and especially music, associated with given social problems. The most widespread were protest songs. Boudewijn de Groot also became famous for these, as he was nicknamed a protest singer for his music in the period from 1960 to 1975. The presented work will focus on the question of the extent to which we can consider Boudewijn de Groot as a protest singer, given the share of protest songs in the defined period of creation.
